We have seen them in the past in some cities at intersections and believe their purpose was to intercept traffic signals when emergency vehicles needed to pass. Transistorized receiver covers 139.65 MHz with a five section preselector crystal controlled oscillator and Vibrasponder tone detector which allows a SPST relay to be actuated by a tone in 600 to 800 Hz range.
